Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met his Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov, in Uzhhorod on Nov. 5, as an Azerbaijani delegation arrived for discussions on energy cooperation.

Shmyhal said Azerbaijan's delegation included officials and business representatives. The two sides plan to convene their intergovernmental economic cooperation commission before holding bilateral discussions involving businesses from both countries. In a social media statement, Shmyhal expressed hope that the negotiations would produce substantive results and deepen cooperation on energy.

Azerbaijan has supplied Ukraine with humanitarian and economic assistance during Russia's full-scale war. It has also supported Ukrainian reconstruction, including work in the energy sector, while Kyiv and Baku have maintained good relations.

The talks follow President Volodymyr Zelensky's April visit to Azerbaijan, his first since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. He met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Gabala, where the countries signed six agreements aimed at broadening cooperation.
