Libya's eastern parliament names Fawzi Abu Khazam central bank governor
The appointment follows Naji Issa's resignation. The rival High Council of State in Tripoli has not commented on the vote.

Fawzi Abu Khazam has been appointed governor of Libya's central bank by the country's eastern-based parliament, which accepted the resignation of Naji Issa. A parliamentary spokesperson said the appointment won support from 78 members, with 90 present.
The decision comes against a backdrop of rival authorities: a UN-recognized government based in Tripoli and an eastern administration and parliament supported by military commander Khalifa Haftar. The western-based High Council of State, a rival to parliament, has yet to comment on Abu Khazam's appointment.
Issa took the central bank post in 2024 during a political confrontation that brought oil production to a halt and triggered a deep financial crisis. In August, he sent his resignation to both legislative chambers, saying he could no longer serve but offering no public explanation.
Parliament accepted his departure in October. On that same day, the central bank reported that unidentified people had raided its headquarters in Tripoli.
