Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno and Algeria's foreign minister, Ahmed Attaf, met at the presidential palace in N'Djamena to discuss strengthening relations and putting bilateral cooperation agreements into effect.

The agreements were signed when Deby visited Algiers last year. Their implementation was among the subjects addressed during Attaf's meeting with the Chadian president.

Speaking afterward, Attaf said the two countries faced shared development, security and stability challenges in the Sahel-Saharan region. He said their people wanted the region to use its potential to advance prosperity and development.

Mali's army leader, General Assimi Goita, is also expected to travel to Algeria in the coming weeks. The prime ministers of Mali and Algeria have already exchanged visits to Bamako and Algiers.
