Letterboxd acquisition talks put price at around US$330 million
The New York Times Company is reportedly in exclusive negotiations, with Letterboxd expected to remain a standalone site if a deal proceeds.

An acquisition of Letterboxd by The New York Times Company is under discussion at around US$330 million, according to reporting by The New York Times based on anonymous sources. The negotiations are exclusive but remain ongoing, and a deal could fall through.
Under the arrangement being discussed, Letterboxd would continue as a separate website for the foreseeable future, the newspaper reported. The buyer could also bring its advertising technology to the platform. The Times Company declined to confirm the report.
Tiny, a Canadian investment group, acquired 60 percent of Letterboxd in 2023. It reportedly sought a sale beginning in July at a valuation near US$250 million. Companies said to have expressed interest then included Sony Pictures, Netflix and Paramount.
Letterboxd's 30 million members can review and rate films, keep viewing records, assemble movie lists and follow fellow users. Revenue for the platform is projected at US$15 million for 2026.
