Gasoline shortages spreading through Niger have reached Niamey, with drivers in the capital encountering growing lines to refuel. Residents say the scarcity is making journeys to work and routine activities more difficult.

Some residents report spending days trying to buy gasoline, even after receiving assurances that the shortage had ended. Frustration has prompted calls for authorities to provide a lasting solution.

Harouna Chérif, a Niamey resident, described a week of difficulty finding fuel and said he could not obtain gasoline for his commute. He said the problems were not understood and called for the government to resolve them.

Fellow resident Abdoulaye Zakari said he was still searching for fuel after being told supplies were no longer short. He appealed to the country's leaders to consider residents' difficulties.

Neither the reason for the shortages nor a timetable for normal supplies is clear. Drivers remain unsure when they can expect to refuel without lengthy queues.
