Brazil projected to rank as world's eighth-largest economy in 2027
The IMF forecasts Brazil's GDP at US$2.80 trillion in 2027 and expects it to hold eighth place through 2031.

Brazil would move ahead of Italy and Russia to become the world's eighth-largest economy in 2027 under projections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The fund expects Brazil to end 2026 in tenth place.
The IMF's World Economic Outlook, published in October 2026, puts Brazil's 2027 gross domestic product at US$2.80 trillion. That compares with projected output of US$2.77 trillion for Italy and US$2.68 trillion for Russia. Brazil is forecast to keep its eighth-place ranking through 2031, when the projection period ends.
India is also projected to rise in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth ahead of Japan and the United Kingdom. The IMF expects India to overtake Germany for third place by 2031.
The forecast keeps the United States in first place and China in second through 2031. Their projected GDP figures for 2027 are US$34.44 trillion and US$22.94 trillion, respectively. Brazil's best previous ranking was seventh, reached in 1995 and again during 2010 through 2014.
