Get to know Certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, Francesca V. Paragas, who serves patients in Virginia.
New York City, New York May 12, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Francesca is a certified adult gerontology nurse practitioner in Virginia. Her main objective is to obtain a position as a registered nurse in an Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit, and eventually go back to school to become a family nurse practitioner.
"I know that as I further my career in nursing that my knowledge, skills, philosophy, and principles will continue to grow. With this, I plan on providing care and serving others to the best of my ability as a future nurse" she expressed.
After graduating with her high school diploma from Bayside High School in June of 2012, Francesca went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Old Dominion University in May of 2016.
Before beginning the program, she knew nursing was a career she wanted to pursue. She always found healthcare and the sciences fascinating ever since she was young. The moment she knew that she wanted to become a nurse was when she traveled to the Philippines to see her grandmother. Her grandmother went into critical condition unexpectedly. It was an extremely emotional experience. Through it all, the memories Francesca has in the hospital consisted mainly of the nurses who not only cared for her grandmother but also for her and her family. At that moment, she knew she wanted to positively impact other lives as the nurses in the Philippines have impacted hers.
From 2010 until 2014, Francesca served as a customer service assistant at Primary Care Physicians of Hampton Roads. Her responsibilities included greeting patients, taking vital signs, doing glucose checks, assisting with physical assessments, administering vaccinations, performing EKGS, as well as filing and scheduling appointments.
In March / April 2016, Francesca served a preceptorship within the Intermediate Care Unit at Sentara Leigh Hospital, completing over 660 clinical hours.

Among her philanthropic endeavors, Francesca served as a volunteer at St. Matthew's Catholic Church from 2011 - 2013. She assisted in organizing classrooms during the summers and collected weekly donations for church services.
